The Taraba State Police Command has cracked down on some gangs that have been engaging in criminal activities across the state particularly cattle rustling and kidnapping.
In the process, ten suspects
were arrested by the command in separate operations while large cache of
arms and ammunition, including five AK47 riffles, two assault riffles,
two single barrel guns, one locally made double barrel pistol and a
locally made pistol as well as several rounds of live ammunition and two
AK47 magazines.
The state Commissioner of Police, Shaba Alkali who paraded the suspects during a press briefing at the command headquarters on Friday
said the gangs were smashed by a special join operation of SARS
recently set up by the command in conjunction with local vigilante
groups.
Alkali further revealed that
the operations that led to the smashing of the gangs were carried out in
Bali, Donga, Gassol and Takum local government areas of the state.
According to him “A joint
operation of SARS, the local communities and vigilante groups has
cracked down the proliferation of firearms, cattle rustling, kidnapping
and other associated forms of criminality and a lot of success has been
recorded in the recovery of firearms and ammunitions as well as the
criminals."
