Governor Ishaku Assures New VC of His Support

Taraba state Governor, Arch. Darius Dickson Ishaku has assured the new Vice Chancellor of Federal University Wukari, Prof.Abubakar Gunduri of his unflinching  support and cooperation for the University to be ranked among the best in the country.

Governor Darius Ishaku said this  in his office when the new appointed Vice Chancellor of Fedetal University Wukari paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House.

Governor Ishaku charged the new VC to replicate the achievements recorded while he was the DVC in Dutse University and added that he will do his best to accord him all the necessary support and beckon on him to make Wukari his next home by deploying his capabilities and wealth of experience to make the university one of the best in the country.

Ishaku told the VC that he wants a University that is devoid of any form of fanatism, sectionalism and favouritism and categorically told the new VC that he desires the best for the university and the people of the state.

Darius Ishaku then used the opportunity to call on the new VC to give special attention to the host community in terms of employment and enrollment whenever the opportunity presents itself.
He lamented over the dilapidated standard of tertiary institutions in the country, he however assured the new VC of his full support in making the University one of the best in the country stressing that the issue of electricity would soon be a thing of the past.

Governor Ishaku further challenged the VC to hasten up in the establishment of the faculty of medicine and skill acquisition center and also promised the Vice chancellor that his administration  will assist the federal university in the construction of a hospital within the University to support the faculty of medicine which he pointed out that it would go a long way in complementing the state owned hospital in Wukari which at the moment cannot meet the health needs of the people, he added that all hands are on deck to resuscitate the facility.

Speaking on the southern part of the state,Governor Ishaku encouraged the people to maintain peace and orderliness and be their brothers’ keeper as his administration is bent on bringing a lasting solution to all the crisis in the region.

Speaking earlier, the new Vice Chancellor of Federal university Wukari, Professor Abubakar Musa Kundiri told the Governor that he was in his office to officially inform him that he has since taken over as the new VC of the Federal University Wukari and to also solicit for a harmonious relationship.

Professor Abubakar added that he has come with a renewed vigour and determination to reposition the Federal University Wukari which he decried lack standard library, Senate building, utility vehicle, inadequate accomondations for both staff and students, porous borders among other problems confronting the institution.

Abubakar Kundiri asserted that he is determined to work in accordance with the guiding principles of Universities which include teaching, research and social service and added that he intends to establish school of post graduate studies, medicine and engineering faculties to consolidate with what is on ground.

Taraba State House of Assembly Confirmed the Appointment of Hassan Bappa And Others


The Taraba State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of Hassan Bappa as Commissioner nominee from Jalingo LGA in the State Executive Council. 

 Also confirmed were the board members of the Taraba State Independent Electoral Commission (TSIEC), the Local Government Service Commission and the State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB).

In a plenary session presided over by the Speaker Rt Rt. Hon. Abel Peter Diah which held at the hollow chambers of the House, all the nominees had an easy passage with only a few having to be probed by the members.

Dr. Philip Duwe scaled through as Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission alongside eight commissioners while Dr. Jonah Kataps was cleared as Chairman,  Local Government Service Commission.

The House however, had to follow Order 5 rule 19(5) which states that the House could not sit beyond 1 ‘O’clock and this prompted the House to immediately usher in the State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) Chairman nominee, Dr. Yakubu Agbaizo and three members of the board. Following after this, all the nominees were unanimously approved by the House.

In appreciation to a job well done, the Speaker thanked the House and directed the Clerk of the House, Ismailu Ukwen Tentason to communicate to the Executive Governor, Arc Darius Dickson Ishaku on the new development.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB), Dr Yakubu Agbaizo, said that the reason for the poor welfare of teachers in the state occasioned by non-payment of teachers’ salaries was due to the falling price of oil which was the mainstay of Nigerian economy.

The TSUBEB boss made this disclosure to newsmen after his screening today (yesterday), at the House of Assembly complex. He acknowledged the fact that primary school education is a priority to the present rescue mission of Governor Darius Ishaku and so is the welfare of primary school teachers an utmost priority.
Dr Agbaizo further stressed that his new team is passionate to restore the lost glory in our public schools.

Gov Ishaku Discredit Reports on Taraba’s IDPs, security


The governor of Taraba state Darius Ishaku has expressed deep concern over the recent sensational reports particularly on security matters in the state by some media houses. 

The governor who spoke through his senior special assistant on media and publicity Mr. Sylvanus Giwa lamented that recent report by some media houses was capable of discouraging the return of the Internal Displaced Persons, IDPs who were affected by last year’s communal crisis.
