The Taraba State Government has put
mechanism in place to enhance revenue generation by increasing taxes on
logging across the state.
The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Darius Ishaku, Mallam Hassan
Mijinyawa who disclosed this in an interview with Daily Trust in
Jalingo, said a tax of N400,000 has been enforced on each truck of a
particular timber called Madrid which is exported to China.
He said Taraba State is blessed with high
quality Madrid trees in high demand in China and other Asian countries.
According to him, apart from the tax, those involved in the logging
business are compelled to replant trees to control desertification.
