Fire Destroys Ex-Governor Suntai’s House In Taraba

The residential home of the former governor of Taraba State, Danbaba Danfulani Suntai, has been burnt by fire.

The incident, which started around 6:43pm yesterday, destroyed several household items.
Confirming the incident, the former chief press secretary to ex-governor Suntai, Alhaji Hassan Mijinyawa, said that he was yet to ascertain the cause of the fire incident.

Army Arrested 6 Over Ibi Communal Crisis In Taraba



The Nigerian Army has arrested six suspects over the ongoing communal crisis in Ibi Local Government Area of Taraba. Lt.-Col. Chima Egemole, the Commanding Officer of the 93 Battalion, Takum, paraded the suspects and arms and ammunitions recovered, before journalists in Takum on Sunday. 

Egemole disclosed that two peace meetings were held in Ibi recently as directed by the military high command but the rampaging youths turned deaf ears and continued to forment trouble in the area.

BREAKING NEWS: Police Capture 2 Boko Haram Leaders in Taraba

Two Boko Haram kingpins who were declare wanted by Nigerian Army were arrested in Taraba state by the Nigerian Police Force while on surveillance around the state. The two wanted Boko Haram kingpins, Alhaji Ali Abdu and Abdulmumuni Abdulahi all indigenes of Yobe state were arrested through intelligent gathering according to the Commissioner of Police Taraba state command, Shaba Alkari. 


The Commissioner disclosed this while briefing journalist at the police headquarters in Jalingo over the recent achievements recorded by the police command. Shaba stated that the first suspect Ali Audu was arrested at Tela town in Gasol local government area of Taraba state on 22 of April 2016 through a tip off.

Aisha Alhassan reacts to gender parity bill

Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Aisha Alhassan has noted that she received the rejection of the Gender and Equal Opportunities Bill by the senate with mixed feelings. Alhassan said she had hoped for the passage of the bill because it would have helped women make a significant leap in the advancement of Nigeria.

“I received with mixed feelings, the news of the rejection of the proposed Gender and Equal Opportunities Bill by the Nigerian Senate. The bill if passed would have addressed discriminatory practices against women, especially in the areas of access to education, female entrepreneurship development, participation in governance and decision making, protection against violence, etc,” she said.

Fulani Herdsmen Crises - Jukuns Lament Alleged Silence, Inaction From Presidency

The Jukun people in Taraba State have lamented the alleged 'graveyard silence and inaction' from the presidency, Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) and Northern State Governors' Forum over their plight in the Fulani herdsman and farmers' crises.

The people, through the Jukun Development Association of Nigeria (JDAN), highlighted the atrocities being allegedly committed daily by Fulani herdsmen in southern and central Taraba State and much of the states in North-central Nigeria, saying: "As we speak, hundreds of thousands of cows are occupying destroyed homes and farmlands across the region making sure that indigenous population never return to their homeland."

My sweet romance with Taraba state started November 2nd 2012 when i was posted to the state under the National Youth Service Corp(NYSC) scheme for the mandatory one year national service. It was indeed a call to serve and i wasted no time in honouring the clarion call.


The journey to Jalingo where the camp was located wasn’t a fairy tale one, long hours on the road that stretches through the night. At some point i had to ask my co-traveler sitting beside me if we are travelling to a different country..lolsss. My co-traveler presumably a northerner, chuckle a smile and said No.

Gov. Ishaku Commissions Kunini Electrification Project


Taraba state Governor, Darius Dickson Ishaku on 17th March, 2016 commissioned the Kunini Electrification Project in Kunini town of Lau Local Government Area.

In his speech that preceded the commissioning, the Governor encouraged the people of the area to cultivate the attitude of peaceful coexistence, reminding them that no society can make any meaningful progress if the people fail to tolerate each other’s inadequacies, stressing that the request to construct roads that lead to the town would only be possible if there is peace and tolerance among all tribes in the area.

Senator raises alarm over silent killings in Taraba



Deputy Senate Minority Leader, Emmanuel Bwacha, at the weekend raised the alarm over silent killings going on in Taraba State.

Bwacha who represents Taraba South Senatorial District said that the silent killings were being perpetrated by dislodged Boko Haram insurgents who moved from Borno, Adamawa and Yobe States.

Taraba State is located in the North-East geopolitical zone of Nigeria. It was carved out of the old Gongola State on August 27, 1991, by the former military government of General Ibrahim Babangida. The state derived its name from the Taraba River which crosses the southern part of the state, and both the river and the state are rightly called “Nature’s Gift to the Nation.”

Gov. ​​Ishak​u​ signs ​Taraba’s ​N100.8 billion 2016 ​budget

The Taraba State governor, Darius Ishaku, on Wednesday signed the adjusted 2016 Appropriation Bill of N100.8 billion.

The governor had in December 2015, presented a budget of N68.8 billion to the House of Assembly.
But he told journalists in Jalingo after signing the bill that the figure was increased to include anticipated revenue.

IMPROVING TARABA STATE TOURIST ATTTACTIONS

The government has made concerted efforts to improve areas of tourist attractions like Mambilla Tourist Center, Gumpti Park and game reserve in Gashaka; and the Nwunyu Fishing festival in Ibi, which is usually held in April of each year where activities such as canoe racing, swimming competition and cultural dances are held. Other festivals are Purma of the Chamba in Donga, Takum and Bali, the Puje of Jukuns, Kuchecheb of Kutebs in Takum and Ussa, Kati of the Mambilla and host of others. Taraba is called "Nature's gift to the nation" as the state is rich and have many ethnic groups, including Jenjo, Kuteb Chamba, Mumuyes, Mambila, Wurkums, Fulanis, Jukun,Ichen,Tiv,Kaka, Hausa and Ndola. A striking historical fact about the State is that it encompasses part of the Mambilla Region which is famed as the Bantu cradle, having been occupied for some five millennia to date

WEATHER/CLIMATE OF TARABA STATE

Like most parts of northern Nigeria, Taraba State has a wet and dry climate; the wet season lasts, on the average, from April to October with mean annual rainfall that varies between 1058mm in the north around Jalingo and Zing, to over 1300mm in the South around Serti and Takum. The wettest months are August and September. The dry season lasts from November to March; the driest months are December and January with relative humidity dropping to about 15 percent. Mean annual temperature around Jalingo is about 28°C with maximum temperatures varying between 30°C and 39.4°C, and minimum temperatures range between 15°C to 23°C. The Mambilla plateau has climatic characteristics typical of a temperate climate.
